Tenebrist artist José de Ribera painted Jacob’s Dream (Spanish: El sueo de Jacob) in 1639. (Lo Spagnoletto).

It is housed in Madrid’s Museo del Prado and measures 179 by 233 centimetres (70 inches by 92 inches).

On his left shoulder, Jacob rests his head against a tree. His dream ladder is seen in the distance on the other side of the room. An angelic ladder of light ascends and descends rather than an actual ladder made of wood.
