4 Ways to Get Your Senior Clients Ready for Their Photoshoots

Getting ready for a photoshoot can be as nerve-wracking as it is exciting, especially when it comes to senior portraits. These aren’t just any photos; they’re a milestone, a celebration of steps taken and futures bright with promise. So, how do you ensure your clients look and feel their best? By prepping them properly, of course! Today, we’re diving into 4 Ways to Get Your Senior Clients Ready for Their Photoshoots. Trust me when I say, a little preparation goes a long way, transforming a good session into a spectacular one.

1. Review Outfit Choices, Props, and Locations Before Your Session

So, let’s jump right into our first tip: Kick off your preparation by tackling the basics: outfits, props, and locations BEFORE your session. This is such a game-changer, friends!

This trio can either make or break your photoshoot. I suggest having a pre-session chat to go through various outfit options. Encourage a mix: something casual, something dressy, and something that screams ‘this is me!’ Props play a pivotal role too. musical instrument, sports gear, or something personal that tells their story, these items add a personal touch that captures your seniors’ story!

And don’t forget about scouting locations ahead of time. A great backdrop can be as crucial as the subject in front of it. Familiarize yourself with the lighting and setting so you can spend less time searching and more time shooting.

2. Create a Style Guide for Clients

Now, let’s talk about creating a style guide for your clients. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy—a simple PDF or even a Pinterest board is perfect.

Your style guide should include tips on choosing outfits that complement each other, advice on colors and patterns, and suggestions for accessories. Hair and makeup tips should also make the cut since these elements are essential for a polished look.

Your clients look to you as the expert, so don’t be shy about sharing your knowledge. A well-prepared client is a happy client!

3. Discuss Posing and Expression Tips

Okay, onto our third tip: discussing posing and expression tips. You might think this is something to tackle during the shoot, but oh, how a little pre-chat can change the game!

I like to have a little chat with my clients about posing and expressions before the shoot. Explain that they don’t have to be professional models and that you’ll guide them through the process.

Give them a few basic tips, like how to relax their shoulders, where to place their hands, and how to create natural-looking smiles and expressions. It’s all about making them comfortable in front of the camera.

4. Create a Day-of Checklist for Clients

Last but definitely not least, create a day-of checklist for your clients. This is a lifesaver for helping them remember everything they need to bring and do on the day of the shoot.

Your checklist should include basics like outfits, accessories, and props, but also remind them of little things like snacks and water—because hangry clients aren’t happy clients! Include reminders for hair and makeup appointments and any last-minute grooming tips like nails and eyebrows.

Sending the checklist a day or two before the session will help your clients feel prepared and reduce any last-minute stress.

And there you have it – 4 Ways to Get Your Senior Clients Ready for Their Photoshoots.

Prepping your clients is a game-changer! It makes them feel confident, look their absolute best, and ensures they have an amazing experience during their shoot. And the best part? It helps you capture those gorgeous, authentic images that will have them—and their friends—raving about your incredible work! Happy clients mean more word-of-mouth buzz for you. It’s a win-win!
