Maison & Objet January 2025

Maison & Objet January 2025

The first fair of the new year, Maison & Objet. I loved last years January edition and spending three days in Paris the first day I visited the actual Maison & Objet Fair. Next to getting a glimpse at the many exhibitioners, the fair is also a place to network. Meeting new brands that are interesting to me, and to you I believe, or looking at the new collections of familiar brands is one of the main reasons to visit the show. Then there were the different inspiration area’s   WOMANIFESTO! by Faye Toogood, Tomorrowland and Curatio by Thomas Haarmann.

In this blog an impression of my day at Maison & Objet. For previous articles on the blog have a look here: Maison & Objet on vosgesparis. I will also highlight a few brands from the fair on the blog later, it is always hard to visit all brands  you would like, especially if they are located in the hall you do not really or plan to visit… the day went fast but here is a small impression. Despite the quality of the images I hope you enjoy !

WOWMANIFESTO BY FAYE TOOGOOD

According to my friend Stefan there is a trend going on which he calls ‘dirt’ or smudges or filth which he think is happening as a reaction to mass production from the far east.  This became clear at WOWMANIFESTO the exhibition by Fay Toogood. Divided into four themes—drawing, sculpture, materials, and landscape—the installation reflects the core of Toogood’s creative DNA. While she’s known for her sculptural work, Faye shares that her fine art background, especially in painting and drawing, often goes unnoticed. In WOMANIFESTO! she says,  she merges these worlds, blending the ‘painted hand’ with her sculptural pieces to create a deeper connection with the objects.

Speaking for myself, I only found the first part interesting. The other spaces I found too colorful and uninspiring. I do like several of Fay’s drawings and although I am a big fan of Wabi Sabi and imperfectionism, the basis must always be stylish for me. I quickly lose my attention when I for example see duct tape installations or a pile of old plastic garden chairs being ‘an installation’. It may be free expression or art art, or maybe I don’t understand the idea behind it, I personally am not inspired. A few snapshots to see for yourself.

Curatio

I was really looking forward to Curatio, curated by Thomas Haarmann, hosting many of my favourite designers and studio’s. I did not had the chance to really see it all as the space was narrow and it was a gathering of people standing around each object. Above the work of Van Rossum.

Origin Made

Origin Made presented their Togetherness collection, new additions, new tables and the work of new designers. It was the brands first appearance on Maison & Objet I have been following them for some years, visiting their exhibitions in Milan and Copenhagen. You might remember the beautiful Cipango exhibition in Milan a few years ago or Enter the salon in Copenhagen.

ML | II – Mad et Len

Mad et Len  presented ML|II where their signature fragrances were used in a series of new objects… the new home fragrances were really amazing. As soon as I have all details I will come back to you with Mad et Len II

Gardeco

As every year Gardeco stood out with beautiful objects, will write some more soon also about these amazing vases. And the bench was a kind of love at first sight.

Les Puces de St Ouen

Beautiful curated by Alessandro Morriconi a few rooms were decorated with pieces from the famous Parisian Flea Market. St.Ouen

Giobagnara

The Italian brand Giobagnara always surprises me with their work and new collections. They are extremely good in mixing materials which results in surprising design each time I visit them at the fair. Below a new series of marble tables and their collection in collaboration with Kelly Wearstler.
