Senior Photography Education | Semester Student Spotlight

Senior photography is a growing genre that a lot of photographers want to specialize in due to the fact that teens can not only be fun to photograph but they want to have their senior photos taken which is a nice change to toddlers who don’t! :). But senior photography can be a bit different than other genres so when photographers decide this is what they want to specialize in, they sometimes need help in navigating this new genre and making sure their business is set up to give senior clients a complete experience.

Marketing to seniors is also a bit different because it is not only the senior client you are marketing to but the parents of the senior as well.  So creating a website, social media presence, word of mouth marketing to teens and parents and more is important right from the start.  These are all things we cover inside the Seniorologie Semester, which is a six month senior photography coaching program designed to help photographers set up systems in their business, create a marketing plan that attracts both seniors and their parents, price themselves for profit and book their calendar full of the clients they want to photograph…seniors!!

Inside the Semester, students learn in both a group coaching setting as well as individual help from me, Leslie, creator, coach and senior photographer!  I love helping students navigate the world of senior photography and creating a business that allows them to be profitable and successful photographing the genre they love.

Just like today’s student spotlight…Jaden of Jaden Giorgianni Photography in Savannah, GA!  Jaden is not only a graduate of The Seniorologie Semester but she is enrolled in my next level coaching program, The Graduate Circle!  I have absolutely loved working with Jaden and seeing her grow her business over the last few years!!

Jaden is a busy mom, wife and family, senior and school photographer!  She is super organized and absolutely loves creating automated systems and organization inside her business!!  Let’s meet Jaden….

Tell me a little about your business and how/why you decided to focus on seniors

I’ve been in business almost 5 years and have the typical always carried around a camera then had a baby and really learned how to use a camera story. I focus on families and seniors and always say families keep the lights on but seniors are my passion. I found myself behind the camera for my first senior session in the spring of 2020 when a friend who knew I did family/children portraits asked me if I would do senior pictures of her son – because of COVID he didn’t have the chance to get them done. I said yes and was immedialtey hooked – I loved talking to him, getting to know about his future, and most of all not having ot chase him around on the ground while begging him to look at the camera! LOL From there my senior business has grown and I’ve photographed over 100 senior sessions!

What are some things you have worked on and accomplished inside The Seniorologie Semester?

While I was in the Seniorologie semester the biggest thing I changed about my business was my pricing. I am an all-inclusive photographer – when I initially spoke with Leslie about joining the semseter I wanted to make sure she wasn’t going to spend the whole 6 months pushing me to change my business model. She was very supportive of my feelings and decisions about what season I’m in with my home life and busienss life and how IPS isn’t a road I’m currently ready to walk. She was so supportive of my pricing and my structure BUT did encourage me along the way to revisit, restructure, and raise the prices of the all inclusive senior offers I had. I was nervous about the change but it has proved a solid decision and I’m consistently booking sessions at double my original prices!

What are you currently working on for your business?

I am currently working on branching into the education space and fine tuning some of the systems and workflows I have in my business.

What have you seen a huge difference in since being inside The Semester?

Since being in the Seniorologie Semester I’ve seen a huge difference in my patience with how my business is growing. Leslie and I had several conversations about how the pieces of the puzzle I’m constantly working on are falling into place and how continuing to be consistent with my marketing and networking efforts drives growth.

What advice would give to other photographers who are looking to take their business to the next level or photographers who may be stuck and unsure what to do next?

You have to do the work and be prepared for the wait – it will come!
